The tales of Krishna never cease to enthrall no matter how many times one reads or listens to them. What then needs to be said when Krishna, the Hero of the Bhagavatha Mahapurana is verily brought before our very eyes through an intricately woven tableau of poetry, music, dance and drama?
Swathi Soft Solutions is proud to present as part of its Sanskriti Series, "Krishna," a dance theatre production by Natya Perarasu Madurai R Muralidharan and the students of Nrithyakshethra.
This production chronicles key events in the story of Krishna. Commencing with Krishna's descent to earth as the eighth son of Vasudeva and Devaki, prophesied as the one to slay his uncle, Kamsa, the narrative moves on to Gokula where Krishna grows as the much adored darling of Gokula under the care of his foster parents Nanda and Yashoda.
The slaying of Pootana, Krishna's innumerable childhood pranks, his magnificent dance on the outspread hoods of Kaliya, the serpent, Krishna lifting up the Govardhana Mountain to protect the denizens of Vrindavan from Indra's wrath, the slaying of Kamsa, the delightful interlude of Radha and Krishna's courtship, the sublime rasalila that embodies the highest philosophical principle of the human soul seeking union with the divine and the events culminating in the battle of Kurukshetra, where Krishna gives not only Arjuna, but all mankind, the gift of the Gitopadesham these are the vignettes that unfold before you in this production, Krishna.
